Hello Friends!
For the past 11 years, I have worked as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery, Medical Surgical units taking care of all types of patients, maybe one of your family members at one point. In Labor and Delivery I have assisted countless expectant mothers deliver their babies and have seen thousands of smiles and tears as new parents, grandparents and siblings were introduced to the newest member of their family.
Constantly witnessing these miracles of new life, seeing the joys of the new mother, the new father and the happy family members waiting and then finding out that their new baby was born, boy…I thought I had it made. Until one day, I looked at my family and realized that my own children were growing up and it hit me. I was an employee.
I was not working because I wanted to, but because I had to. I was spending a lot of time at work and was only able to pay the monthly bills. My oldest daughter is 13 years old, in that time we have had one family vacation. In order to take that family vacation, my husband and I had to charge it onto a credit card, that we are still trying to pay off.
While I was at work helping other families, my own family was growing without me. I have an amazing husband and three amazing children that we brought into this world to enjoy and spend time with, and I have spent more time away from them than I have with them.
No matter how good I was at my skills, how much recognition I have received at my job, I wanted more recognition from my kids. I have missed holidays, volleyball games, lacrosse games, school field trips, not to mention church or family events.
I have worked night shift, thinking that would allow me more time with my family. But if anyone has worked night shift before, you can sympathize with me that your body is off somehow. You actually feel like you are drunk all the time, although I don’t even drink. You feel dizzy and unfocused because of the lack of sleep. I was always tired and no amount of sleep seemed allowed me to wake up refreshed. I was impatient and irritated all the time.
Have you ever felt that way after working so many hours? Can you remember when you were so tired you thought about doing something else?
While I had goals of helping in the community and teaching my children the value of respecting and helping others was rapidly disappearing as they get older. I was trapped in an endless struggle of working for others for the rest of my life, sitting in rush hour traffic, having to "stay late to finish a project".
One day we decided to do the ultimate move, we moved from California to Florida (you might be wondering why right??) I know… many people were asking why go from beautiful sunny California, so muggy and hot Florida?? Was I insane and lost my mind? I wanted to make changes in my life, I wanted to grow but that came with risks and lots of learning.
Until I felt rejected… with 11 years of work experience I could not find a job in Florida. I felt horrible, rejected and felt like I did not have anything else to give… That was a blow in the gut… and I needed to find something else to do, so I chose to go back to what I enjoy doing and that is learning and teaching the community I serve. But I wanted bigger, I wanted to reach more people so that is when I launched my Blog…
Have you considered how much knowledge we humans don’t know, we live our lives thinking that we know everything. As the New Yorker points out, learning a new skill has many kinds of unexpected benefits, including improving working memory, better verbal intelligence, and increased language skills.
Information is out there but I am here to assist you to gain a new perspective in many areas of your life. Health and Wellness, especially what works. This Blog will provide you with Tips and Nuggets on how to live a better life with others and how to have Serenity and peace of mind with everyone around.
